Practicing Green Real Estate
As green living has gained momentum, the National Association of REALTORS® has introducted the Sustainable Living Designation, which is NAR’s official designation for integrating green concepts into REALTOR® business. There is also another green designation that many Realtors have taken advantage of since 2002: EcoBroker® designation.
EcoBroker®: The Green Designation is overseen by the Association of Energy and Environmental Real Estate Professionals and trains real estate professionals in the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico, New Zealand and Central America on environmentally friendly and sound real estate practices. Essentially, the program trains real estate professionals to be green ambassadors.
Within the ever-changing world, businesses and the government have pushed to create new opportunities through green technology and the real estate industry has especially been adamant in incorporating eco-friendly practices into the business world.
The EcoBroker® program teaches the basics of green practices for real estate and incorporates the basics of sustainability into everyday business practices. In addition to providing a solid foundation for green learning, the designation also provides a certain level of credibility and expertise. As sustainability gains popularity, consulting in the field will provide ample business opportunities and revenue sources for those who get involved early in the game.
At this point, many are just beginning to adapt to the green movement; however, most professionals agree that sustainability is geared to become the norm rather than the exception. Even consumers are increasing demand for sustainable living and will expect that their prospective home is energy efficient. It is good business practice for real estate agents to join the momentum now, before it really takes off.
Have you taken steps to incorporate more green practices into your real estate business? What is the best way to go about this?
